ASP allows server-side functionality such as database access to be constructed quickly and easily using VBScript. Although ASP is often accused of begin shallow and incomplete as a toolset, it has been around a long time now and the best way of approaching most tasks have been worked out. ASP on it's own can suffer under very high loads and is often matched up with COM/COM+ objects.

We recommend ASP based sites for small to medium volume sites. ASP tends to be cheap to produce but may not have the great scalability for future expansion. Cross platform versions of ASP are available but we suggest JSP/Servlets if portability is a factor. Basic ASP skills can be acquired far more easily than JSP/Servlets so from an internal maintenance point of view ASP may also save on training.
